“Thank you Edwin for helping guiding me through my first
two years as concertmaster! Our performances of Scheherazade,
as well as Tzigane and Korngold’s violin concerto are some
highlights I will always hold dear. I wish you happiness and
artistic fulfillment in your next endeavour!”
- Bénédicte Lauzière, Concertmaster

Farewell Edwin Outwater!

The KWS says farewell and thank you to Music Director Edwin Outwater after 10 wonderful years!

“Edwin came to us just in the nick of time. We were floundering and going nowhere, still in a world of strife as an orchestra. He came and led us, both on the podium and off, showing us what we were capable of and making us believe in ourselves. He added life to the organization and the city. I wish him all the best and I will sorely miss him.”
- Jim Mason, Principal Oboe

“Edwin, thank you for your creative and intelligent musical leadership of the KWS the past 10 years. Performing intense symphonic works such as Ein Heldenleben and the Strauss Oboe Concerto with you was an absolute joy. Your redefinition and modernization of KWS programming has allowed us to reach new audiences. You raised our profile with concerts such as those that featured Nicole Lizée’s Fantasy on Themes of Rush, the amazing throat singing of Tanya Tagaq, and readings by renowned Canadian authors Miriam Toews and Wayne Grady. Most of all, thank you for your kindness and thoughtfulness. Receiving your lovely personalized notes (and chocolate truffles) made the end of every season special.”
- Jane Maness, Tuba

“Since I joined the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony
midway through his first season, Edwin has helped me
grow as an artist and member of this ensemble. I am deeply
moved by his commitment to the musicians of our orchestra
and to the betterment of our community. On behalf of my
colleagues I wish him all the best and look forward to making
great music together in the future.”
- Ian Whitman, Principal Bass
