Following a spoken guide to outdoor performance and listening by world renowned composer and acoustic ecologist R. Murray Schafer, the audience will be led on a vigorous hike through the Rare Forest, a natural area and wildlife refuge along the Grand River. There, they will encounter outdoor performances and sound installations that highlight the sounds of the river, the forest, and the cultural history of the area. Total duration: 3 hours.

A complimentary shuttle service is offered from Kitchener City Hall (Duke St side) departing daily at 2pm. You are invited to join Mr. Schafer after the walk, the shuttle will return to City Hall by 7pm.

A natural protected area, rare does not have the capacity to handle parking therefore participants must go to City of Kitchener to take the bus which is seen as an essential element of the experience. In addition, there are limited tickets available so we strongly suggest booking your tickets prior to the day you wish to attend. Please arrive at City Hall prior to 2 pm.

Appropriate footwear and dress for a vigorous hike is requested. We also suggest you carry water.
