Alexander Cannon is the Assistant Conductor for the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony in Ontario, Canada. Cannon previously served as the Assistant Conductor for the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra, and conducted youth orchestras at the El Sistema- inspired social program at the Saint James Music Academy in Vancouver. He joins the KWS as Assistant Conductor to Music Director Andrei Feher after instruction and mentorship from Donald Schleicher, Larry Rachleff, and Cristian Măcelaru.
Alexander has performed on trumpet with Vancouver Opera, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver New Music, the Turning Point Ensemble, Chor Leoni Men’s Choir, and the Vancouver Chamber Choir. Dr. Cannon served as the Head of Brass at the Vancouver Academy of Music, and in addition to his formal degrees in trumpet performance he studied at the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, the Pierre Monteux School, the Lake Placid Institute, and the Centre for Advanced Studies at Chosen Vale.
Alexander has attended the Cabrillo Festival Conducting Workshop in Santa Cruz, California, and in 2018 led the Lviv Philharmonic Orchestra in performances of Beethoven and Berlioz in Lviv, Ukraine.
