Assistant Conductor

Dr. Alexander Cannon is a conductor and performer who currently lives and works in Vancouver, and has been the Assistant Conductor of the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra and the Head of Brass at the Vancouver Academy of Music at SK Lee College. He studied trumpet and received his Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of British Columbia. While a doctoral student at the UBC, he was twice a recipient of the university’s University Graduate Fellowship. Dr. Cannon has performed as a trumpet player with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Opera, Vancouver New Music, the Turning Point Ensemble, Chor Leoni Men’s Choir, and the Vancouver Chamber Choir, and as a guest principal trumpet and soloist with many BC regional orchestras. In Vancouver he served as the Head of Brass at the Vancouver Academy of Music at SK Lee College, conducted youth orchestras at the El Sistema-inspired social program at the Saint James Music Academy, maintained an active schedule as a sought-after performer, conductor, educator, ensemble contractor, arranger, and adjudicator.
