Baroque & Beyond Series Continues With Two Concerts: Stravinsky & Beethoven and Bach & Vivaldi
The Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony continues the Baroque & Beyond Series in April with Stravinsky & Beethoven-Baroque in Waterloo on Wednesday, April 5 at 8 pm at First United Church. Then, in May, the KWS presents Bach & Vivaldi on Wednesday, May 10 at 8 pm at First United Church. Both concerts will also be presented in Guelph and Cambridge.
Stravinsky & Beethoven, led and curated by KWS Concertmaster Bénédicte Lauzière, begins with a collection of Bach chorale arrangements that explore orchestral colour, and ends with Beethoven’s profoundly healing Heiliger Dankgesang from his String Quartet. Also featured is Stravinsky’s Pulcinella Suite and Vivaldi’s virtuosic and dramatic La Follia.
Bach & Vivaldi is curated by KWS Principal Oboe James Mason and features violinist Aisslinn Nosky, formerly of Tafelmusik, as soloist in a program that explores the connections between J.S. Bach and Vivaldi, two titans of Baroque music. The program features the “Summer” movement from Vivaldi’s most famous work, The Four Seasons, along with intricate and delightful works by Bach, Geminiani and Handel.
Tickets for all concerts are $36 for adults and $15 for students and can be purchased online at kwsymphony.ca or by calling 519-745-4711 or 888-745-4717.
