The Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony performs with KW Glee for a Brand New Concert Collaboration
After a hugely successful first collaboration in January 2015, the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony welcomes KW Glee back to the Centre In The Square stage on January 17 & 18 at 7:30 pm. Led by conductor and arranger Trevor Wagler, the concert will feature 130 local youth performers who are members of the nationally renowned show choir. These versatile young performers will bring their stellar vocals and energetic choreography to the stage while the Orchestra provides the music for chart-topping pop hits by a variety of artists including Queen, Michael Jackson, Adele, Michael Bublé and more!
KW Glee is comprised of two show choirs that perform in Southern Ontario. The senior group is made up of performers ages 14 to 19, and the junior group is made up of performers ages 9 to 13. KW Glee Senior made headlines when they competed in the 2015 Show Choir Canada Competition for the first time and unexpectedly won four categories including Best New Choir, Best Show Concept, Best Choreography and the Grand Champion title. Earlier this year, KW Glee Junior repeated this success winning first place at Show Choir Canada in the Junior Division.
Original music is a big part of KW Glee and the group has worked with some accomplished songwriters including Mark Pelli from the pop group Magic!, JP Sunga, and Juno and CCMA nominees Jamie Warren and Giselle Sanderson. This time, their original song will be written by Will Currie from the Canadian band Willie Currie and the Country French.
“We are really excited to be sharing the stage once again with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony,” says Amanda Kind, Artistic Director of KW Glee. “Our collaboration in 2015 was a huge success and we look forward to another wonderful opportunity for the young aspiring performers in KW Glee to sing the kind of music they love with a world class orchestra – it’s a once in a lifetime experience. This time, our song list is even more versatile – with hits like Bohemian Rhapsody, Rhythm Nation, Rolling in the Deep, Jump Jive and Wail, Signed Sealed Delivered and more! We know Waterloo Region audiences are in for a spectacular concert experience.”
KW Glee runs January 17 and 18 at 7:30 pm at the Centre In the Square, 101 Queen St. N. in Kitchener. Tickets are $36 and can be purchased online at kwsymphony.ca or by calling 519.745.4711 or 888.745.4717.
