The Snowman Takes Centre Stage for Annual Yuletide Spectacular

The Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony brings holiday favourites to the stage with this year’s Yuletide Spectacular on December 16 at 8 pm, December 17 at 2:30 and 8 pm, and December 18 at 2:30 pm at Centre In The Square. Led by KWS Assistant Conductor Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser, the concert features the charming animated film The Snowman, based on the book by Raymond Briggs with the orchestra providing the soundtrack. With over 200 performers on stage, the KWS welcomes soprano Bethany Horst and baritone Michael Lepock, along with the Grand Philharmonic Choir, Grand Philharmonic Children’s Choir, Contemporary School of Dance and the KWS Youth Orchestra performing side-by-side with the KWS.

Audiences will be treated to a mix of old and new holiday favourites – including selections from The Nutcracker, White Christmas, Silent Night, and Sleigh Ride, plus a sing-along with the Grand Philharmonic Choir.

“It has become a K-W tradition. Every year many of us gather at Centre in the Square for a holiday celebration that showcases the region’s talent in a heartwarming concert of old and new with something for everyone,” commented Bartholomew-Poyser. “With the most onstage musicians of any KWS concert, the KWS Yuletide Spectacular is a feast for the eyes as well as the ears. This year, in addition to ballet, chorus, soloists and a huge orchestra, we will be presenting the animated feature movie The Snowman, with live orchestral accompaniment. Get your tickets early, I’ll see you there!”

YULETIDE SPECTACULAR runs December 16 at 8 pm, December 17 at 2:30 & 8 pm and December 18 at 2:30 pm at the Centre In the Square, 101 Queen St. N. in Kitchener. Tickets can be purchased online at or by calling 519-745-4711 or 888-745-4717.
