Get Silly at the Symphony for Edwin’s Final Pops Concert
The Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony invites the audience to get silly at the Symphony for Edwin Outwater’s final Pops concert as Music Director, Edwin’s Pops—A Night of Music and Comedy on May 5 and May 6 at 8 pm at Centre In The Square. This concert will feature the return of special guests soprano Measha Brueggergosman and pianist Stewart Goodyear like you’ve never seen them before. Measha will perform William Bolcom’s witty Cabaret Songs and Stewart Goodyear will perform Gershwin’s famous Rhapsody in Blue. No musical comedy concert is complete without PDQ Bach, whose hilarious take on Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony as a sportscast will feature Assistant Conductor Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser and the Royal Conservatory’s Mervon Mehta as the sportscasters.
Measha Brueggergosman began her career predominantly committed to the art of the song recital and has presented innovative programs at Carnegie Hall, Washington’s Kennedy Center, London’s Wigmore Hall and both the Konzerthaus and Musikverein in Vienna. Her appearances include the Boston Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic Orchestra, Cleveland and the New World Orchestras, San Francisco and London Symphony Orchestras with conductors such as Barenboim, Sir Andrew Davis, Dudamel, Harding, David Robertson, Tilson Thomas and Welser-Möst.
Stewart Goodyear began his training at The Royal Conservatory in Toronto, received his bachelor’s degree from Curtis Institute of Music, and completed his master’s at The Juilliard School. Known as an improviser and composer, he has been commissioned by orchestras and chamber music organizations, and performs his own solo works. Goodyear has performed with major orchestras of the world, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, and the San Francisco Symphony.
On his final Pops concert Edwin commented “I can’t wait to celebrate one of my final concerts as Music Director of the KWS with some of my closest friends and this wonderful Orchestra. There will be great music, laughter, and more than a few surprises!”
