Pianist Natasha Paremski Returns to the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony to Open the 2016/17 Signature Series

Music Director Edwin Outwater welcomes back internationally renowned pianist and KWS favourite Natasha Paremski to the Centre In The Square for a performance of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 on September 30 and October 1 at 8 pm. This concert opens the Signature Series and also features Tchaikovsky’s fateful Symphony No. 4 and Mason Bates’ visceral Mothership.

Natasha Paremski, a Russian-born American pianist, has performed with orchestras across North America and Europe. She is well-liked KWS audiences, appearing on the 2014/15 Season to play Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, and on the 2010/11 season performing Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1. This time around, she takes on Rachmaninoff’s most thrilling and challenging concerto, Piano Concerto No. 3.

Premiered by the YouTube Symphony in 2011, Mason Bates’ Mothership combines the full orchestra with pulsing electronica for an electro-acoustic experience. For this work, the KWS will be joined by Bob Egan (formerly of Blue Rodeo) on guitar, and the Toronto duo kloX, made up of  Gurpreet Chana on tabla and Robert Mason on electric violin.

“Our first Signature concert features Tchaikovsky’s epic Fourth Symphony, his riveting musical duel with Fate,” commented Outwater. “We also welcome KWS favorite Natasha Paremski back to play one of Rachmaninov’s most difficult and beautiful works, his Piano Concerto No. 3. Never miss an opportunity to hear this monumental work played live! We open the concert with a work for orchestra, electronics and special guests by Mason Bates. Premiered at the YouTube Symphony in Sydney, Mothership will feature guest appearances by KW’s own Bob Egan and the Toronto tabla/violin duo kLoX”.
