Edwin Outwater Concludes 10 Year Journey Through Beethoven’s Symphonies

KWS Music Director Edwin Outwater concludes a 10 year long journey through all nine of Beethoven’s symphonies with Edwin’s Final Beethoven on October 28 & 29 at 8 pm at Centre In The Square.  The concert, which features Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2, also includes Korngold’s Violin Concerto in D major, highlighting the talents of KWS Concertmaster Bénédicte Lauzière, and Liszt’s familiar and lively Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2.

Beethoven’s Second Symphony, considered his most high-spirited and exuberant, and was the first Beethoven symphony ever conducted by Outwater. The dramatic symphony is paired with Korngold’s lush and cinematic Violin Concerto, which borrows from the composer’s work on the 1937 film Another Dawn. Concertmaster Bénédicte Lauzière takes centre stage for this work, showing off her musical prowess throughout, especially during the virtuosic finale.

“Beethoven’s Second Symphony is one of my favorites,” commented Outwater. “It’s bursting at the seams with energy, invention, detail, humor, and lyrical beauty. It was the first Beethoven symphony I ever conducted, and the final one I will play with my dear colleagues in the KWS as Music Director. Then, we move into Korngold’s gorgeous Violin Concerto, a special favourite of Bénédicte Lauzière, our concertmaster and featured soloist. I can’t wait.”

EDWIN’S FINAL BEETHOVEN runs Oct 28 & 29 at 8 pm at the Centre In the Square, 101 Queen St. N. in Kitchener. Tickets can be purchased online at kwsymphony.ca or by calling 519-745-4711 or 888-745-4717.
