Young Canadian Musicians Take Centre Stage for Concert of French and Canadian Jewels

Two young stars make their debuts with the KWS for Debuts and Bijoux on November 25 & 26 at 8 pm at Centre In The Square.  Leading the Orchestra is the young and accomplished Andrei Feher, who is fast becoming a star in the conducting world. Joining him onstage is 16 year old pianist Anastasia Rizikov, performing Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G major. Also featured is Ravel’s beloved Mother Goose, Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, Rabaud’s La procession nocturne and Champagne’s Mouvement Symphonique No. 1.

Born in Romania to a musical family, Andrei Feher began studying music as a violinist before relocating to Montreal. He began training as a conductor in 2011, and at age 22 Feher became the youngest assistant conductor at the Quebec Symphony Orchestra, and in 2014 joined the Orchestre de Paris as Assistant Conductor. Since then he has worked with orchestras across Europe and North America. This is Feher’s debut with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony.

Also making her KWS debut is Canadian pianist Anastasia Rizikov. After making her orchestral debut at age 7, Rizikov has performed with orchestras across North America and Europe. An award-winning performer, in 2015 she placed first at the Jaén International Piano Competition and the Ettore Pozzoli International Piano Competition. She will be performing Ravel’s exquisite Piano Concerto in G major.

“It is an honour and a privilege for me to make music with the KWS for the first time. I am happy to have one of the greatest young talents in Canada, Anastasia Rizikov, to play the wonderfully jazzy Ravel Piano Concerto in G major,” commented Feher. “This program is filled with French masterpieces, Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun and Ravel’s Mother Goose, and also what I think will be two amazing discoveries: Eric Champagne’s Mouvement Symphonique No.1 and La procession nocturne by Henri Rabaud. I am looking forward to presenting to you this beautiful and colourful French program.”
