Rising Star Violinist Benjamin Beilman Joins the KWS for Sibelius’ Violin Concerto

Award-winning American violinist Benjamin Beilman makes his debut with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony for Beilman Plays Sibelius on February 17 & 18 at 8 pm at Centre In The Square.  Music Director Edwin Outwater leads the Orchestra in this program featuring works by Sibelius, one of his favourite composers, and will prepare the audience for Sibelius’ Symphony No. 7 with visuals and commentary before it is performed. Beilman will be performing Sibelius’ Violin Concerto in D minor, and the concert opens with Mozart’s dramatic Symphony No. 25.

At twenty-six years old, Benjamin Beilman is recognized as one of the fastest rising stars of his generation. Beilman is the recipient of the prestigious 2014 Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship, awarded to artists in the earlier stages of their careers to help develop their future potential. In 2010, he won First Prize in the Young Concert Artists International Auditions, and First Prize in the 2010 Montréal International Musical Competition. He has also appeared as soloist on the Chicago Symphony’s new music series, and has performed with the symphony orchestras of Detroit, San Diego, Atlanta, and Grand Rapids, as well as making recital debuts in San Francisco and Vancouver.

“Sibelius is without a doubt one of my favourite composers,” commented Outwater “and his Seventh Symphony is his ultimate artistic statement. Its sublime exploration of organic change, human emotion, and breathtaking beauty will leave you captivated. I’ll be introducing the piece with visual accompaniment before we play it, to prepare the audience for the amazing experience of this symphony. I’m also thrilled to welcome my friend Benjamin Beilman to the KWS for his debut. He is one of my favourite young violinists on the scene right now, and the Sibelius Concerto is his signature piece. We open with one of Mozart’s most memorable examples of Sturm und Drang, his Symphony No. 25.”
