The Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony welcomes back Eleanor McCain for the first concert of the 2017/18 season, True North: The Canadian Songbook on September 29 and 30 at 8 pm at Centre In The Square. In May 2017, Eleanor released her 6th studio album, True North: The Canadian Songbook, celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday. Emmy Award winning composer Don Breithaupt produced this double album of 32 iconic songs reimagined by 14 arrangers from coast to coast and recorded with 10 of the country’s foremost orchestras, including the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, Orchestre symphonique de Québec, National Arts Centre Orchestra, Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, Symphony New Brunswick, Symphony Nova Scotia, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Victoria Symphony, and Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. The launch of True North: The Canadian Songbook will support Canada’s music education charity, MusiCounts, with special Commemorative Grants honoring MusiCounts’ 20th Anniversary.

Hailing from Florenceville, New Brunswick, Eleanor McCain is a triple ECMA-nominated classical crossover specialist that has recorded six albums, accompanied symphonies across Canada and has toured with noted JUNO-nominated jazz singer Matt Dusk, producer of her album Runaway. She last appeared with the KWS in the 2015/16 season for the Pops Series concert The Music of Love. Based in Toronto, Eleanor McCain is also an active philanthropist.

“It is so exciting to perform with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony once again! The orchestra and their incredible team have made our collaborations particularly meaningful to me – from the Yuletide Spectacular to our show with Matt Dusk to recording Gold in Them Hills and Rhythm of My Heart for my album, True North: The Canadian Songbook. I am thrilled to be returning to perform some of Canada’s most iconic pop and folk songs with this talented group of musicians,” said Eleanor McCain.
