Opportunity to Join the Board of Directors 21/22 Season

The Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony has weathered the COVID storm through innovative performance and creative and bold management. We have an opportunity for new Board Members to contribute to our growth.

The Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony is the 3rd largest professional orchestra in Ontario and a cultural centerpiece of the Waterloo Region for over 75 years. We inspire audiences of all ages and backgrounds through artistic excellence, innovative programming, education and community outreach programs. The Orchestra comprises 52 professional musicians and until March 2020 played over 100 concerts each season at the Centre In The Square and throughout the Region. Performances are currently streamed giving our audiences access to our Signature, Pops, Family & Children programs. We look forward to performing live in our favourite venues.

The Board

Our Board is formed of up to 18 volunteer members, elected by the Members of the KWS Symphony Orchestra Association on an annual basis. We serve a 3-year term, renewable for one additional 3 year term. Our Board year runs from early November through our performance Season to November of the following year.

We have 6 Board meetings a year and additional committee meetings. Presently the Board and Committee meetings are live through Zoom.

The Board’s Governance is strong, developed by experts in the field of not-for-profit governance. We strive to include a diversity of age, gender, community reach and range of industry and public sector representation. Our Board is focused on stewardship, financial oversight and leading the strategic vision and values of the KWS. Philanthropic & Development leadership by the Board is critical to the future of the KWS.  The Board supports a strong Administrative and Artistic team who carry out the daily business of the Orchestra.   We are also committed to the IDEA Policy adopted by Orchestras Canada (Inclusion, Diversity, Equality and Accessibility).

Specific Areas of Professional Skills Our Board is Looking For

  • Board Leadership
  • Representing the diversity of our region is particularly critical to our success
  • Interest in classical music and the cultural community of Waterloo Region
