POSTPONED – Tales in Sound
Due to the announcement from the Government of Ontario on December 21, 2020, Waterloo Region will be entering a 28-day lockdown. One of the changes for the performing arts during this lockdown phase is a limit of 10 performers onstage at a time, which means that we are unable to record orchestra concerts at Centre In The Square. This concert will be broadcast on a new date once recording can resume.
Andrei Feher, conductor
Hétu: Symphony No. 4
Vaughan Williams: The Lark Ascending
Debussy: Petite suite
Music inspired by poems and stories is the hallmark of this colourful program. Vaughan Williams’s The Lark Ascending is full of folk melodies evoking the glorious image of the rolling British countryside, and features Concertmaster Bénédicte Lauzière as violin soloist. Originally written for piano duet, the orchestral version of Debussy’s Petite Suite is vivid and expressive. Though not inspired by a poem or story, the instruments in Hétu’s masterful Symphony No. 4 embody characters, and he plays with contrasts between movements and themes.
