Introduction

The Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony is committed to full compliance with current standards of the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR) Policy, Regulation 191/11, under the Accessibility for Ontarians Act.  In so doing, we affirm our commitment to providing quality services in a manner that respects dignity and independence for persons with disabilities.

Multi-Year Accessibility Plan 2020 – 2024 Commitments

Under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony is required to develop multi-year accessibility plans that outline the organization’s strategy to prevent and remove barriers. The AODA legislative requirements guide the framework of this Multi-Year Accessibility Plan

The AODA intends to achieve a more accessible Ontario on or before January 1, 2025.  To achieve this mandatory standards have been created.

The five standards are:

  • Information and Communications Standards
  • Customer Service Standards
  • Employment Standards
  • Design of Public Spaces Standards (Not currently applicable to the KWS)
  • Transportation Standards (Not currently applicable to the KWS)

The general requirements for all standards include the development and implementation of accessibility policy, accessibility plan and training.

General Requirements Commitments

Accessibility Policy

  • Continue to review and update the KWS Integrated Accessibility Policy as required.
  • Continue to make the KWS Integrated Accessibility Policy available to the public on the KWS website.
  • Update all staff on revisions to the KWS Integrated Accessibility Policy.
  • Create a staff AODA Committee that will meet quarterly to review the progress of accessibility initiatives and will report annually to the KWS Board of Directors.

Accessibility Plan

  • Continue to make the Multi-Year Accessibility Plan available to the public on the KWS website.

Training

  • Continue to provide mandatory accessibility training to all new staff, updating and re-training as required.

Standards Commitments

Information and Communications Standards

  • Continue to ensure that feedback processes are accessible to persons with disabilities.
  • Continue to inform the public about the availability of accessible formats and communication supports.
  • Continue to provide, upon request, accessible formats and communication supports.
  • Continue to ensure compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Level AA so that the KWS website and web content remains accessible to people with disabilities.

Customer Service Standards

  • Continue to ensure that KWS customer service is committed to excellence in servicing all people, including those with disabilities.
  • Continue to provide mandatory customer service training for staff.
  • Continue to provide customer service standards in training materials for volunteers.

Employment Standards

  • Continue to maintain accessible policies and practices at all stages of the employment life cycle, to include recruitment, assessment, selection, performance management, career development and redeployment.
  • Continue to provide workplace emergency response information and documented Individual accommodation plans, as necessary.
  • Continue to provide return to work processes for individuals who have been absent from work due to a disability.

 

Conclusion

This Multi-Year Accessibility Plan will be posted on the KWS website so that it is available to the public.  The Multi-Year Accessibility Plan will be reviewed and updated every five years.
