An update on the 21/22 Youth Orchestra season
Thank you for your interest in auditioning to Youth Orchestra Program. The in-person auditions (with COVID-19 safety protocols) will take place at Conrad Centre for the Performing Arts in mid September.
For the fall term the auditions are offered for Youth Strings, Youth Sinfonia and Youth Orchestra STRING players only. Please keep in mind that all students will be required to be able to tune their instruments without any assistance.
The fall 2021 audition requirements:
- One scale (Youth Strings and Youth Sinfonia) or two scales (YO STRINGS)
- A solo piece of your choosing, best demonstrating your skills and abilities. The time limit of the solo piece is set at 2 minutes for Youth Strings and Youth Sinfonia candidates and 3 minutes for Youth Orchestra string players. The piece can be part of a larger work and no accompanist is required.

Auditions are offered to candidates 6-22 years old to 4 different orchestras in progressive order. The younger division with entry group, junior and intermediate orchestras consist of all string instruments (violin, viola, cello and bass). YO, the senior group, accepts students studying instruments featured in symphony orchestra: all strings, woodwinds (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon), brass (French horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba), percussion (no drum set) and harp. No auditions are offered for piano students. Main auditions are scheduled in late spring of each year, additional opportunity is offered in early September, before the start of the season. Based on availability of seats in orchestras, auditions might be offered throughout the season. Contact the manager for details. If you play viola, double bass, oboe, bassoon or French horn – you can audition any time!
All YOP candidates will be notified via email about their audition results, typically within 24-48 hours.
