Notes From The Conductor: Rachmaninoff & Tchaikovsky

I can’t say how much I have been looking forward to this moment. It is a very special time for me and the Orchestra and I also feel this is the beginning of an amazing chapter in the history of the organization. I have been thinking of this first week for more than one year!

The two concerts we shared together last season were incredibly powerful experiences and I know the musicians are hungry for more of these nurturing experiences and concerts. The chemistry and bond with this orchestra is a central priority for me because it makes everybody happier and more willing in giving their lives for every note they are playing and that’s why I am so excited to come back for our first Signature concert.

I am very happy to welcome back Éric Champagne for this concert. His piece Mouvement Symphonique opened my very first concert with the KWS in November 2016. Now, I am privileged to present the world premiere of Festive Overture, which was written for this special occasion. He is one of the greatest Canadian composers and I am delighted he has composed this piece.

I am also very pleased to welcome to the KWS a young pianist, Lukas Geniušas playing the most romantic of the piano concerts : Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto. The substantial piece of the concert is Tchaikovsky’s 5th Symphony, which I conducted for the first time six years ago and now I am looking forward to bringing all of these wonderful melodies and passionate movements to our great hall at the Centre in the Square.
